My Top Study Tips

07:55

Although it’s far from exam season, it’s always good to start your study habits early. Good practice now will make everything easier and less stressful when the big season comes!!! Of course, different things work for different people, but these are my top tips!

  • Have a tidy work space. Although this sounds totally stupid. I feel having a clean space to study in helps focus your mind on the task. When everywhere around me is messy my thoughts are all cluttered and I struggle to concentrate.

  • Write up your notes! This will mean you will refresh your memory and the information is more likely to set in your head. When you come to review them during exam period you are more likely to already remember then.

  • Ask your teachers/tutors/lectures if you need any help. Please don't be scared!! This is what they are there for and they want to help you! If you are struggling with anything just go see them, it could be as simple as a 5 minute chat.

  • Have breaks!!! I cannot stress this enough. If you keep on solid working for hours your brain isn't going to keep taking in all the information. I tend to take breaks about every 40 minutes and only when I've finished making notes on that section. A break will allow you take your mind of studying and relax, making it easier to refocus.

  • Set target. I like to make lists of everything I want to get done in a day or over the weekend. This allows me to get everything completed and not leave anything to the last minute. The most important thing is to be realistic, if you’re not you won’t achieve and will become unmotivated.

  • Colour coordination is a must for me, having my work organised and neat means it's easier to reread later for revision and allows me to increase me highlight the main facts.

  • Again another stupid one, but something I love doing is to listening to ‘study music’. There’s plenty on YouTube that our hours long, all I do is just pop in one low in the background and it just helps me focus.

The most important thing is to find what works for you. We all learn differently!
